This year my husband and I decided to take the kids to watch the Miami City Ballet Nutcracker show.  Our kids are old enough now and ready to be introduced to the ballet and other forms of performing arts.  My youngest is 4 years old and loves the ballet. She’s even in her ballet school’s Nutcracker show as a mouse. So cute!

The Miami City Ballet Nutcracker show ran from December 9 until December 30th at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Miami. The show’s duration was 1 hour and 54 minutes worth 1 intermission. We sat in the mezzanine section for $75 per adult.

This was my first time at the Arsht Center as I usually go to Broward’s Center for the Performing Arts. The Arsht Center is just beautiful. A true architectural gem. Big chandeliers and columns gives the place a palace-like feeling. The seats were big and comfortable. One thing I’ve never seen at Broward Center: booster seats available everywhere.  We were attending the 7pm show which required dressing up.

The show was fantastic. The orchestra played Tchaikovsky’s music to Balanchine’s choreography perfectly. The costumes were very intricate so much so that I could still see the details from my seat. The dancers were enjoying performing as much as I enjoyed watching the show. My kids didn’t fall asleep and to my surprise my 7 year old boy was really into it.  After the show, I asked him to tell me the story and so he did: is Christmas eve and after everyone goes to sleep,  Marie and her Nutcracker Prince take off to a winter wonderland adventure complete with a parade of characters performing for the Nutcracker Prince.

Overall, the Miami City Ballet Nutcracker show was a great experience and a great holiday treat for the entire family.  If you cannot afford the $85 per ticket price, I suggest you check out the Nutcracker production by Inna’s Hall of Fame in Cooper City for $20 per ticket.

Here’s a quick video from Miami City Ballet I found on YouTube:
